AUSTIN, Texas – October 20, 2009 – Newgistics Inc., a leading provider of USPS-based small parcel delivery and returns management solutions, today announced that Samsung has selected Newgistics for the company’s S.T.A.R. (Samsung Takeback And Recycling) program. The S.T.A.R. program provides consumers and businesses with a simple, environmentally friendly way to recycle Samsung toner cartridges using Newgistics’ pre-paid SmartLabel® Intelligent Returns Management™ (IRM) solution. Launched in 2005, Samsung’s S.T.A.R. program takes responsibility for the environmental impact of the company’s products by offering customers a free, easy-to-use recycling return program. The program safely reprocesses empty cartridges into their major usable component materials (plastics, metals, etc. including the packaging materials) and then makes those reprocessed materials available for reuse in manufacturing a range of products. To participate in the S.T.A.R. program, consumers simply visit, where they can create and print a Newgistics SmartLabel, then simply attach the label to their used toner cartridge box and tender it to any one of the more than 150 million addresses served by the United States Postal Service™ (USPS). Convenience, lower costs and easy access to the USPS were key reasons that Samsung selected Newgistics for the S.T.A.R. program. Leveraging the USPS for cartridge recycling is much more convenient for both consumers and commercial customers, and Newgistics’ postal-based solution significantly reduces Samsung’s costs for the recycling program. “The goal of Samsung’s S.T.A.R. program is to make cartridge recycling extremely easy for our customers, and we are achieving that with the Newgistics SmartLabel solution,” said Douglas Albregts, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Samsung Electronics America, Information Technology Division. “Working with Newgistics, we expect to further increase participation in the program – which will be good for our customers, the environment and Samsung.” With a proven track record of success and more than 10 years as a leading provider of USPS-based small parcel delivery and returns services, Newgistics pioneered merchandise returns best-practices with the introduction of its SmartLabel-based solutions.
